Larry Shean, the Facilities Director has a long history with Ligonier Camp. His Grandmother, Alene Claycomb worked as a cook during the 1950’s. His mother worked in the kitchen in 1958; she later returned to Ligonier Camp in 1987 with her husband as Food Service Directors until 2003, and are still fondly remembered as “Sarah & Pappy.”
Larry grew up in Derry, Pa. graduating from Derry Area School District in 1984, where he was involved in Vocational Agriculture and the Future Farmers of America (FFA). . He graduated from Westmoreland County Community College in 1992 with an Associates Degree In Applied Science in Business Administration.
Larry worked in the construction industry for a number of years and on the maintenance staff at the Derry Area school District. Larry volunteered his time helping his parents in the camp kitchen. While volunteering at the camp, Larry met his wife Paula, who was a camp cook. They were married in 1994. In 1995, he was offered a full time position at the camp. Paula works as the church secretary at Derry Presbyterian Church where they worship.
Their son Jesse worked at the Camp through his high school years and graduated from Derry Area School District and Eastern Westmoreland County Technical Center in 2014. Jesse is employed by O'Reilly's Auto Parts Store in Greensburg where he is the Receiving and Distribution Manager. Jesse is the fourth generation from the Shean family to work at Ligonier Camp.
Larry has served his church as an Elder, and leads worship there when their pastor is on vacation. He has also served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Derry Township Volunteer Fire Department Company #1, Station 71 in Bradenville.
Larry’s favorite pastime activities include spending time with his wife attending car shows, working on their father-son projects, which include restoring old tractors, Jesse’s ‘85 Squarebody Chevy truck, and collecting John Deere memorabilia.
